5 services for your accessible festival visit
The Ruhrtriennale wishes that as many people as possible are able to participate in what the festival has to offer. It works closely with organisations and institutions to facilitate and continually expand our services. People with disabilities are included in developing these services and the process is informed by their experiences and expertise. It is our aim that, with time, barrier-free access will become a standard.
Here we present five services that you should definitely have heard of.
1. Hearing support
People with impaired hearing may borrow mobile inductive hearing loops free of charge for a deposit at events at the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum and in the Kraftzentrale at Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord. In conjunction with a suitable hearing aid, these allow the stage sound to be amplified.
2. Sign language translation
The performances of the Brave New Voices literature series in the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum as well as the performance of LEGENDE on 22nd August and the performance of Pferd frisst Hut on 13th September will be translated live into German Sign Language. Available tickets are displayed in our webshop. There will also be digital introductions in German sign language for these events at the beginning of the festival.
3. Audio description and haptic tour
Audio descriptions will be offered for the performance of FUTUR PROCHE on 8th September. A team of non-sighted and sighted authors will produce a description of what happens on stage and the performance’s stage and costume designs. The necessary receivers can be borrowed free of charge against a deposit. In addition, a haptic tour will be offered before the performance with a chance to explore the stage in advance.
4. Surtitles
In principle, all performances with text will be provided with surtitles in German and English.
5. Audio introductions
For a selection of productions, there is a digital introduction before the premiere of each event, which can be accessed at any time and free of charge. You can find the introductions on the respective production pages or at ruhr3.com/audio
6. Trigger warnings and notices
As we are aware that certain topics may give rise to negative feelings, or have a disturbing or harmful effect, we use trigger warnings on our website to indicate sensitive content. Notice is also given regarding strong sensory stimuli, such as loud noises, smoke, fog or stroboscopes.
