Application deadline for Mortier Next Generation Award extended

The Mortier Next Generation Award is presented every two years to support projects by artists at the beginning of their careers. Interested parties can apply with their project ideas until 15 December 2024. 

With the Mortier Next Generation Award, the Mortier Awards association promotes projects by young artists in the spirit of the theatre innovator and visionary Gerard Mortier.  People under the age of 35 are invited to submit their project ideas by email to mortier-awards@gmx.at by 15 December 2024. 

The award is endowed with € 30.000. It also includes a short-term fellowship of several months at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin (Berlin Institute of Advanced Study), which, each academic year, offers residencies to an interdisciplinary group of scientists and artists. 

All applications are to include a description and a budget overview which details the costs involved in the implementation of the submitted project (max 6.000 characters).  The decision on the award will be made by an independent jury in the first quarter of 2025.

The Mortier Next Generation Award was created to keep the legacy of theatre visionary Gerard Mortier, who died in 2014, alive in the present day. It is awarded every two years by the Mortier Awards Association. The award honours people who strive to find new ways of artistic expression in the spirit of Mortier.

The Ruhrtriennale is hosting the Mortier Next Generation Award 2025 in cooperation with the Mortier Awards association.
