High on Händel
Georg Friedrich Händel, Samuel Mariño, Jan Tomasz Adamus, Capella Cracoviensis
Sopranista from Venezuela brings queer Glamour into historically informed performances.
Higher than a countertenor, rarer than a blue moon – Samuel Mariño is a sopranista, a male soprano. Born in Venezuela, he captivates audiences with his ethereal voice. Conquering the repertoire of opera‘s great heroines, for whom Georg Friedrich Händel composed many dazzling arias, he brings a unique presence to the stage. It‘s not just his bold, gender-defying style that adds colour to his performances – the accompanying ensemble Capella Cracoviensis plays a key role: The versatile period-instrument orchestra under the baton of Jan Tomasz Adamus enriches industrial heritage venues with the sound of historical instruments.
