Pack up the kids, we’re going to the theatre! Family visits to the Ruhrtriennale

Sunday is family time! And this is why, from the start of the new festival season, Sundays at the Ruhrtriennale will become family afternoons filled with exciting experiences based around the productions of The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, À la carte and Pferd frisst Hut. In our Happy Sundays parents and their children of primary school age can experience performances in parallel: while the adults see the afternoon performance, the children will take part in a professionally-run workshop. Here they will experience the themes of the work in a playful and age-appropriate way and explore them creatively. The whole family can therefore engage with the themes of the production at the same time and then exchange their experiences once the performance and workshop are over. These two events will be combined in a shared memory of a lively family Sunday.

18. Aug – Happy Sunday: The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions
Inspired by the content and realisation of the performance The Faggots and Their Friends Between Revolutions, the children have the opportunity to try out a wide variety of small artistic formats in the workshop together with theatre maker Meriel Brütting. True to the motto: ‘The faggots and their friends love to perform for each other’, we tell each other scenic stories, play theatre games, start small musical exercises and experiment with our own movement. The focus is on our own self and our wishes for living together with other people.
So much to play with!
With this offer, all participating children can decide individually at the moment whether they would like to take part in the respective educational theatre formats. At the same time, there is general professional childcare with free play.
25. Aug – Happy Sunday: Á la carte
In this Happy Sunday workshop, we dance and improvise together! In the dance production À la carte by Ioannis Mandafounis, Artistic Director of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, the choreography is created live on stage and all movements are improvised. In this workshop for children of primary school age, we will use various movement and expression exercises to discover together how you can speak through movement and how much fun dancing is! The workshop will be led by Manuel Gaubatz, dance teacher and education manager of the Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company. Whether you have danced before or are trying it out for the first time – everyone is welcome!
15. Sept – Happy Sunday: Pferd frisst Hut
Inspired by the content and realisation of the performance Horse Eats Hat, children have the opportunity to try out various small artistic formats in this workshop together with theatre maker Meriel Brütting. Together we will invent funny stories and hilarious slapstick scenes that we will act out for each other. We make a hat, think up a choreography or a song and let ourselves be inspired by the stubborn characters in the production. With this offer, all participating children can decide individually at the moment whether they want to take part in the respective educational theatre formats. At the same time, there is general professional childcare with free play.

Construction site information

Since 6 August, the A40 has been fully closed between the Bochum-West junction and the Bochum-Harpen junction due to the construction of a new bridge. Visitors to the Ruhrtriennale must be prepared for increased traffic on the diversion routes, which we have summarised for you here.
